Welcome to Making It Megan!
Here, I’ll be writing about all the things that make me Me: reading, crafting, baking, Pilates, and whatever other hobbies I may decide to hyper-fixate on. And of course, everything is sprinkled with just a hint of snark and sarcasm for good measure. If you’re looking for book reviews, recipes, craft ideas, Pilates class reviews, or just life updates from a stranger on the internet, you’re in the right place!
So, who is Megan? That’s me! I’m 28, living in Alexandria, Virginia with my boyfriend, Alex, our dog, a Jack Russel named Penny, and our two cats, Cleo and Chief (legal names: CleoPawtra and Meowster Chief). I have a full-time job working from home and I am a hobby hoarder: reading, baking, crafting, crocheting, knitting, sewing, Pilates, etc. Basically, if I’ve tried it, I’m now obsessed with it.

I’m originally from a small town in Iowa and have my degree in Journalism and Mass Communications from Iowa State University. I have always loved writing, whether it was fictional stories, articles for my school paper, or journaling. I’ve always kept a journal, a habit I picked up from my mom who started journaling in the form of letters to me when she found out she was pregnant. (Did I mention I was an only child?)
I’ve wanted to start a blog for a long time but never felt like I had anything interesting to say. In February 2025, I still didn’t think I had anything interesting to say, but I decided that I was going to start one, anyway. Even if no one read it except my parents and my best friend, Lauren, that would be okay. This was a way for me to get some creative juices flowing and also to get me motivated to do things with my life in order to have content.
For example, one of my goals for my Weekend Update posts, which I post weekly on Sundays, was to read one book to review that week. As I’m writing this About page 10 weeks in (yeah, I procrastinated it, so what?), I have read and reviewed 12 books. That’s more than I read all of last year.
Another hobby that I love but never make enough time for is baking. I love baking, but I don’t always love reading recipes online. So, I’ve started re-writing my favorites on my baking page (cited to the original poster, I am not trying to get sued), only written in the way that I like to read recipes: little-to-no back story on the recipe – just the facts, ma’am, ingredients measured in grams, the ingredient measurements included in the instructions, and basic nutrition information. Because I am figuring out the grams and the nutrition information for each recipe, I have to make the recipe before I post it. I weigh every ingredient and then tell ChatGPT how many baked goods the recipe made so it can give me the nutrition information. This has forced me to bake and in the end, I get to post another recipe while chomping on a delicious baked good – win-win!
So, all this to say, I would love it if you followed along with me by subscribing or following me on Instagram, but if not, that’s okay! Thanks for stopping by!
